Allan's Vision for Parliament - The local choice who understands our community.
I would like to set out some of the policies that I am standing for parliament on. Having lived in this area all my life, I am a local man and I am committed to delivering stronger services for the people of Basildon and Billericay. I use the same shops, surgeries, facilities as everybody else and I believe that I can deliver a voice for the people who live here.
In my view, we live at a time where we face two key challenges that encompass all the others; how we live with our planet, the massive problem of climate change and global warming, and how we live with each other, making sure that we build strong and prosperous communities, ensuring we tackle inequality and deprivation.
Locally , we as a community need to continue to work to make Basildon and Billericay a better place to live and work. We want to build a safer, more vibrant community, tackling anti-social behaviour, providing better local health services and campaigning for more facilities for young people.
Recognising that there are areas of poverty in our town, I shall fight for our local health services and help reverse the declining health of some of the more deprived areas of our town. Something the Tories have done nothing about.
As your Labour MP, I will build on the Government’s investment in our hospital. Our hospital has had massive investment in the £60M state of the art Cardiac Heart unit which is the leading heart centre in the East of England. Additionally money has been invested into the £2M dermatology unit and a brand new £3M endoscopy unit thanks to this government.
There are issues with the problems of Affordable Housing. People have told me of how their sons and daughters are being priced out of the housing market, forcing them to move elsewhere, breaking up established families and communities. The same applies to young families and key skill workers who cannot afford to settle in a community which desperately needs them. That this why this government has promised greater investment in new build of council housing across the UK.
There must be more focus on building a better future for Basildon. The current problems around the Town Centre development must be sorted quickly; the community should not be left on tenterhooks over this. There needs to be a clear vision of what Basildon should look like, with affordable leisure facilities, more homes and improved community spaces.
I will campaign with hard work, enthusiasm and energy. I’m currently the Deputy leader of the Labour group on the council and have been for five years. I have represented Fryerns and Laindon Park during my 7 years as a councillor.
So I am more than ready to take on the Tories who have failed our community. Tories who have sold off local facilities to produce an elitist sporting village in Gloucester Park. Tories who are building an unpopular waste facility in Courthauld Road in Burnt Mills.Tories who consistently ignore the people of Billericay and Basildon and spend their time pursuing lost and pointless causes.
